Are you considering studying in Australia and staying on for work opportunities afterwards? Well, get ready for some big changes in the Temporary Graduate Visa program, proposed to come into effect from 1st July 2024! The Australian Department of Home Affairs has announced some significant adjustments. Let's dive into the details:

Graduate Work stream Becomes Post-Vocational Education Work stream

  • What's in a Name?: The Graduate Work stream is getting a makeover and will now be known as the Post-Vocational Education Work stream. 🎓✨
  • Age Restrictions: Applicants under this stream must now be 35 years old or younger. However, if you hold a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport and are under 50, you're still eligible! 😊
  • Qualification Requirements: To qualify, applicants must hold an associate degree, diploma, or trade qualification closely related to their nominated occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Stay Duration: Successful applicants can continue to stay in Australia for up to 18 months, except for eligible passport holders from Hong Kong or British National Overseas, who may stay for up to 5 years. 🌏.

Post-Study Work stream Now the Post-Higher Education Work stream

  • Name Change Alert: The Post-Study Work stream is getting a new title: the Post-Higher Education Work stream. 🌟
  • Age Limit: Similar to the Graduate Work stream, applicants must now be 35 years old or younger, with exceptions for eligible passport holders from Hong Kong or British National Overseas, who can be up to 50.
  • Extension Changes: The ‘select degree’ 2-year extension will no longer be available.
  • Stay Period Adjustments: Stay periods are changing based on your degree level:
    • Bachelor degree (including honours): Up to 2 years
    • Masters (coursework and extended): Up to 2 years
    • Masters (research) and doctoral degree (PhD): Up to 3 years
  • Special Arrangements: Indian nationals enjoy specific stay periods under the Australian Indian – Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), offering extended durations for certain qualifications. 🇮🇳

Second Post-Study Work stream Renamed Second Post-Higher Education Work stream

  • Name Change Only: No other changes apply to this stream, which is now known as the Second Post-Higher Education Work stream.

Replacement stream Bows Out

  • Stream Closure: The Replacement stream will no longer be available, so applicants will need to explore other visa options. 🚪
